My route into SEO didn’t start in marketing. My first career was in estate agency, which taught me how local markets behave, how buyers actually search, and how to close a deal on the phone when five other agents are competing for the same listing.
In 2008, Lisa and I launched We Sit Pets, a London pet sitting business. Like most small business owners, the first thing we needed was a website — and like most, we couldn’t find anyone who understood the brief, returned calls, or quoted a price that didn’t assume an enterprise budget. So I taught myself web design, built the site from scratch, then taught myself SEO to promote it.
It worked immediately. Three new pet sitting clients signed up in the opening week from organic search alone, and we averaged that rate every week for the rest of the year. Shortly afterwards I built a site for my brother-in-law, a London french polisher, and within six weeks had it ranking on page one for “french polisher London” — a result that transformed his business overnight. Those two moments are the reason Rapid SEO London exists.
Today, I lead the technical and strategic side of every campaign: SEO audits, keyword strategy, on-page and technical fixes, content direction, and the harder diagnostic work when a client’s visibility suddenly dips. I work hands-on across a portfolio spanning dental, construction, luxury retail, property, professional services, and B2B technology.
Looking back, I still find it amazing that we’ve ranked so many businesses on page one of Google while charging nowhere near what a typical London SEO agency with a large team would assume is necessary. That’s the upside of staying small and staying focused — we’re not inventing tasks just to fill hours. We spend our time on the work that actually moves rankings and brings in enquiries.
