Don’t Use Lots of AI Generated Posts & Pages

Don’t Use Lots of AI Generated Posts & Pages

Avoid Auto AI Generated Pages

There are some very impressive AI content creation plugins for WordPress websites now available which can mass produce web pages and although the content looks professional they’re leaving site owners wide open to receiving a Google penalty. We’ve seen sites creating literally hundreds of pages either all launched on the same day (which looks ridiculous) or posted up 1 per day for months on-end. Often these pages reference the software being used to produce all of this pointless content in code and on the page itself. Even high profile sites cannot get away with this tactic – Google, quite rightly, hates unoriginal, rehashed pointless content created purely to try game the system.

Numerous prominent websites experienced major drops in 2025 following Google’s core and spam updates, with AI-generated content cited as a major contributor:

  • HubSpot and CNN: These large publishers suffered organic traffic declines of 70–80% and 27–38% respectively after the rise of AI-generated answers and zero-click searches.

  • Small and Niche Businesses: Many affiliate, product review, and B2B sites lost 70–90% of their organic traffic, or saw scores of pages deindexed overnight after the June 2025 core update. Most affected were those with templated “best of” lists, how-to guides lacking real experience, and news aggregators without original commentary or unique research.

  • Dental Practices: Reports from May–June 2025 shared that dental practice websites relying on templated or AI-generated content lost 30–40% of their total pages during large-scale Google de-indexing events.

Latest Research and SEO Experiments

  • SE Ranking Study (August 2025): Researchers published 2,000 AI-generated articles across 20 domains and found that almost all AI content disappeared from Google’s index within three months, demonstrating the algorithm’s ability to detect and demote low-value, unoriginal posts.

  • Zero-Click Searches: As AI Overviews and featured snippets increased, many publishers found their traffic cut in half when AI-generated summaries appeared, drastically reducing click-through rates for regular organic results.

Key Causes of Penalty

  • Heavy reliance on AI-generated or templated material without editorial oversight or unique insights.

  • Lack of demonstrable expertise, authoritativeness, or first-hand experience in published articles.

  • Duplicate, thin, or low-value content patterns—especially in English-language markets—are now detected and devalued almost in real time.

These examples confirm sites depending on undifferentiated AI content face far greater penalties and indexing issues than those providing unique, expert-driven information.
